Adhan & Iqamah

The following are general guides for different Islamic schools of thought. However, individual mosques may differ slightly and attendants should follow the Imam(a) accordingly, God knows best.

Sunni Adhan

4x (2x for Maliki school)	الله أكبر	Allahu Akbar	God is greatest (Sufi say twice)
2x	أشهد أن لا اله إلا الله	Ash-hadu an-la ilaha illa llah	I bear witness that there is no deity except God.
2x	أشهد أن محمدا رسول الله	Ash-hadu anna Muħammadan-Rasulullah	I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God.
2x	حي على الصلاة	Hayya ‘alas-salāh	Come to pray.
2x	حي على الفلاح	Hayya ‘alal-falāh	Come to success.
2x	الله أكبر	Allāhu akbar	God is greatest.
1x	لا إله إلا الله	Lā ilāha illallāh	There is no deity except for God.

Shia Adhan

2x	حي على خير العمل	Hayya ‘ala khayr al amal	The time for the best of deeds has come!

Shia Iqamah and Hanafi Iqamah except Hanafi will not recite, Hayya ‘ala khayr al amal
